1962 Sectional Champs to be Recognized Feb. 3rd at CHS

The Charlestown High School Athletic Department will host a Recognition Night on Friday, February 3, 2012, at the CHS Sports Arena; recognizing the school's first ever sectional win by the 1962 Pirates basketball team.

It's been 50 years since that great moment in history when Coach Dale McNeely and his band of Pirates beat the Clarksville Generals at the Jeffersonville Fieldhouse winning our first ever crown at the 1962 Jeffersonville Sectional.  On hand to celebrate the occasion will be six former outstanding members from that elite Pirate squad. They are: Paul Blevins, Dr. Kenny Blick, Tom Ledbetter, Ron Matthews, Tom Rhodes, and George True.  Gary Dale Bridgewater, nephew of Coach Dale McNeely will be there to represent his celebrated uncle who passed away in 2004.  Members of the cheer squad will be there, as well.

Everyone is encourage to come out and give them a great big warm reception at the Charlestown High School Sports Arena, Friday, February 3, 2012, between the JV and Varsity Charlestown-Austin basketball games. A hospitality room will be set up for everyone to meet and greet the players afterwards.

Henning Led Lady Pirates Defeat Salem on the MSC Road

The Lady Pirate Basketball team has struggled most of the season offensively and at times at the charity stripe; but not at Salem (8-10 & 1-7 MSC) Thursday night.  The Lady Pirates compiled a "total team effort" game and handed the Lady Lions a 53-44 set back in Mid-Southern Conference play.  Charlestown (3-14 & 1-6 MSC) was led in scoring by Freshman Kaitlynn Henning, who finished the night with 24 points while shooting a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Jessica Farmer also paced the winners by adding 11 points and shooting 7-9 from the line; while Junior Taryn Moore led the rebounding battle with eight.  The Lady Pirates as a team made 23 of 26 free throw attempts and posted 41 total team rebounds, eleven of which were offensive.  The Lady Pirates will host Clarksville (4-14 & 0-7) Thursday evening with hopes of developing more steam heading into post season play.
