Lady Pirate Megan Brooks:  Continues to Break her Records

The Lady Pirate Track & Field standout Senior Megan Brooks, continues to raise the bar for those who come after her.  Megan, who has committed with the University of Louisville Track and Field program, placed first in the shot put and discus at Friday's Floyd Central Invitational.  Megan threw 41' 11" to win the shot put competition, and then 125' - 2" to win the discus event.  Friday's winning discus distance (125' - 2") broke Megan's 2013 school record of 109', again setting a new school record at Charlestown HS.  Megan broke her 2013 shot put record earlier in the season with a throw of 42'  - 5.5" "Megan has worked hard throughout the off season, and it's paying off for her. She already broke the shot put record and tonight broke the discus.  She is improving and working hard to accomplish her goals this season", commented Lady Pirate Track and Field Head Coach Kim Carroll.


Lady Pirate Softball Squeezes 7-6 Victory on the Road

The Lady Pirate Softball team improved to 5-2 on the season after grinding another victory out; on the road at Perry Central HS.  Frosh Kendall Cline got the win and improved to 3-0 on the season.  Sophomore Leah Sherill finished two for four at the plate, while also batting in three Lady Pirate runs.  Frosh McKenzie Smith stole two bases and finished the game 4 for 5 at the plate.  The Lady Pirates built a 3-1 lead on the Lady Commodores during the first two innings; however the home team battled back and took a 6-5 lead in the sixth.  Charlestown rallied with two runs in the 7th and then held Perry Central in the bottom on the inning for victory.  The JV Lady Pirates also left Perry Central HS with a victory, dominating the home team 13-4 with Cline getting the win from the circle again.  Charlestown has the weekend off and will host New Albany Monday at 5:00 pm.

Pirate Baseball and Lady Pirate Softball Get Thursday MSC Wins

The Pirate Baseball team traveled to Corydon to begin conference play and won 7-3 to improve their overall record to 4 - 1 (1 - 0 MSC).  Junior pitcher Drew Reich got the win from the mound, Junior Colin Martin booked the save, and Sophomore Tanner Wesp hit a two run home run for the winners.  The Lady Pirate Softball team hosted the Warriorettes of Scottsburg, winning 2 - 1 improving their record to 4 - 2 (2 - 0 MSC).  Frosh pitcher Kendall Cline got the win from the circle.  The Lady Pirates travel to Perry Central Friday evening.


Track & Field Compete at Providence

The Lady Pirate Track & Field  team placed 4th out of five teams, scoring 52 points and trailing Providence (93), Henryville (81), and North Harrison (62) during a five way meet at Providence Wednesday evening.  The Rock Creek ladies finished fifth with 16 points.  First Place Lady Pirate honors went to Senior Megan Brooks in the Shot Put (40'2") and Frosh Jenna Daniel in the Long Jump (13').  Brooks also finished second in the discus, Senior Lauren Crowe finished second in the Long Jump and 300 m Hurdles, and Whitney Andrews finished second in the 3200 meter run.

The Pirate Track & Field team placed 3rd out of five teams at Providence, scoring 40 points and trailing North Harrison (114) and Providence (111).  Junior Eli Daniel had finished second in the High Jump (5'8") and Long Jump (18' 0.5") respectfully. 


CPPSB Spring Season Preview Show On-Line Now

Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting, currently in its sixth year of covering Pirate and Lady Pirate Athletics, recorded its annual Spring Sports Season Preview show last Thursday evening.  The Season Preview show, is now available by CLICKING HERE, is hosted by Chuck Ledbetter and Jeremy Vincent, and is featuring special guests Coach Ricky Romans of Pirate Baseball and Coach Kevin Zollman of the Lady Pirate Softball team.  Both teams are ranked in the Indiana Class 3A Preseason Polls and have the ingredients to have another successful season respectfully.  For all that is Pirate Baseball and Lady Pirate Softball, follow Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting on Facebook and on Twitter.


Lady Pirate Volleyball Conditioning/ Open Gym Dates Announced
