Lady Pirate Softball Dominates Brownstown, Wins Sectional!
The Charlestown High School
Lady Pirate Softball team made very short order in traveling to Salem
and slamming the door shut on any hopes that Brownstown's season would
continue. Instead the Lady Pirates dominated the Lady Braves 12-0 to
earn the program's seventh Softball Sectional Championship, the first since
1997.
Not only did the Lady Pirates
play an all around great game when it counted, the game was filled several
subplots of note. Senior Pitcher Alli Webster, mid-way through
the game completed her 800th high school career strikeout! Three Lady
Pirates, Morgan Ashby, Lexi Logsdon, and Alex Hutchinson all
hit Sectional Championship game HOME RUNS! Senior Gracynn Jennings,
who has spent most of the season out injured, was able to complete an at-bat
late in the victory. Not only did the victory provide the program with
its seventh Sectional title, it ended a 16 year drought, and on the birthday
of 11th year Head Coach Kevin Zollman. After the game, Coach
Zollman emotionally told PPSB that he was so proud of his ladies, "there
aren't words for it". Charlestown (20-4) scored their 12 runs off 13
hits and while committing no errors. Fans can listen to PPSB's
archived broadcast of both Lady Pirate Softball Sectional games by going to
www.CPPSB.com
and clicking on the "Broadcast Archives" link.
Charlestown will now host Tuesday's Softball Regional
Championship versus South Dearborn, scheduled for 5:30 pm at the
Charlestown High School.
