Dear
Charlestown Pirate Fans,
It is with great
excitement that I start my first full year as athletic director at
Charlestown High School. Since becoming athletic director in January 2011 it
has been learning experience, and I appreciate all of your support and
patience as I learned and continue to learn the responsibilities of being
athletic director. I wish to thank David Null for helping make the
transition so smooth and for willingly helping me find my way around and
answering numerous questions.
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all of you for your support of the many activities and
athletic programs here at Charlestown High School. Whether we are parents,
teachers, staff, or Pirate supporters, we are proud of our student athletes
as they dedicate and commit themselves to their chosen athletic endeavors.
Our coaches have been working hard in the off season to raise our level of
play in our athletes. Many of our athletes have dedicated their summer to
improving their strength and skill.
As athletic director, I
would like to see an increase in the number of participants on our sports
teams. As many of you know from participating on sports teams when you were
in high school, there are many lessons that can be learned by participating
on a team. Competing provides our student athletes with important lessons
for life such as teamwork, self-discipline, and courage. I challenge you to
talk to the youth of our community and encourage them to participate. When
our athletes see and hear from our community members how important our high
school teams are to them, they will begin to take more pride in their
performance and will take pride in representing the community of
Charlestown. There is a lot of “Blue Pride” in our adult fan base, and I
ask you to pass it on to our current athletes.
Our community has high
standards in regard to sportsmanship and conduct. We expect our students and
coaches to uphold these standards at all times. I would ask that you, as a
spectator, reinforce these standards when you interact with the opposing
teams, coaches, and contest officials.
The athletic department is
grateful to our parents, sponsors, students, Pirate Pride Booster Club, and
fans that provide unrelenting support, energy, and enthusiasm for our
student athletes and coaches. I wish to thank all of our sponsors for all
they do and provide for our athletic teams.
Let’s all work together
AND REV UP THAT BLUE PRIDE!
Go Pirates!
