Pirate Tennis Holds Off Henryville 3-2
The Pirate Tennis team traveled to Henryville Wednesday for an out of
conference match-up with the Hornets, a team the Pirates may see in the
sectional next week. The Pirates won 3 games to 2 after very strong singles
play. The final results are as follows: #1
singles – Chris Braun(C) d. Braden Vaugh 6-1, 6-0; #2 singles –
Kam Heil (C) d. Tanner Buttorff 6-1, 6-2; and #3 singles – Ben
Delaney (C) d. Austin Albert 6-4, 6-1. In Double #1 - Landon
Guthrie/Devin Richey (H) d. Garrett Krouse / Kyle Jackson 6-2, 6-0;
and in #2 doubles – Logan Smith / Cameron Hardesty (H) d. Josh Wray /
Zach Gibson 7-5, 6-0. “Ben Delaney’s scores were good to see after a
close first set, that he was able to get the third team point with a strong
second set. We may see Henryville in the sectional next week, so it’s nice
to have a little confidence going into it, quoted Pirate Tennis Head Coach
Chris Ryan. The Pirates host MSC foe North Harrison tonight (Thursday). |

Pirates Complete Season Sweep of Mustangs with 3-2 Victory
The
Pirate Tennis team traveled to New Washington Wednesday evening with
hopes of finishing a season sweep of the Mustangs, of which they did with a
3-2 final. The Pirates won all three singles matches, including: #1
Singles – Chris Braun (CT) d. Chad McKinley 6-1, 6-0; in #2 Singles –
Kameron Heil (CT) d. Emery Deiterlan 6-0, 6-1; and #3 Singles –
Ben Delaney (CT) d. Jake Zimmerman 7-5, 6-2. The Pirates didn’t fare so
well in doubles play, dropping both matches. #1 Doubles – Joe Hobson/Logan
Miles (NW) d. Kyle Jackson/Garrett Krouse 6-4, 6-1, and #2 Doubles –
Travis McKim/Wes Napier (NW) d. Zach Gibson/Josh Wray 6-1, 6-1.
Coach Ryan commented afterward “With Coach Davis’ adjusting the line-up
since our last match with New Washington, we were fortunate to get the win
today. We matched up very well last time, and won fairly easily, but this
time it could have easily went either way. Ben Delaney was able to
come back and win the first set, after trailing 4-5, and then closed out the
second set for the team win. Charlestown hosts Eastern Thursday evening
beginning at 5:00 pm.

Pirate Tennis Begins Practice Monday, August 1st
The Charlestown Pirate Boys Tennis Team will begin practices on
Monday, August 1st from 6:30 to 8:15 pm at the Charlestown High School
Tennis Courts. Coach Chris Ryan encourages all athletes not
participating in other fall sports to attend and join the team. As a
reminder, all athletes must have an
IHSAA Sports Physical, and should bring
