01/14/10:
Pirates Host Mustangs for Annual
Coaches vs. Cancer Game
The
Charlestown Pirate Basketball
program will host the New Washington Mustangs for a regular season contest
in Charlestown's Bill Dunn Sports Arena on Friday, January 22, 2010.
The game will be monumental because not only will it be the the last time
the Pirates and Mustangs square off in Dunn Arena history, but the game will
also be part of the statewide
Coaches vs. Cancer campaign.

Last year basketball programs across Indiana raised over $67,000
toward American Cancer Society research. The Pirate Basketball coaches
and staff will coach the game wearing the familiar sneakers, as seen on TV
by college and professional coaches in support of the
American Cancer Society. Fans at
the game will have several opportunities to get in the action of Coaches vs.
Cancer; one by purchasing Special Cut-Outs posted in and around Dunn Arena.
These Special Cut-Outs can name family members or friends who have fought
the battle with cancer. Cut-Outs can be purchased in advance of the
game from CHS and NWHS Basketball Players or Cheerleaders, for only $1.00
each. When entering Dunn Arena game-night, Friday, January 22nd, also
look for Cheerleaders selling the Special Cut-Outs, as well as cookbooks
designed and sold with all proceeds also going to the American Cancer
Society. Pirate parent Linda Wakefield will also have
"Hope Love Faith Cure" multi-colored
blue, white and black wristbands on sell for only $1.00, also in
support of Coaches vs. Cancer fund-raising efforts. Pirate
Cheerleaders will also be walking the stands collecting change during
time-outs and halftime as part of the same fund raising efforts.
Additionally, during halftime of the Coaches vs. Cancer game, those fans
that have been touched by this common enemy, cancer; will be recognized for
their courage and perseverance. Don't miss this annual special event,
while supporting the Pirates and Mustangs supporting the American Cancer
Society as well as honoring the lives cancer have touched in our community.
