10/12/11:
Pirate Cross Country Concludes Season at Sectional,
Andrews Advances to Regional
The Pirate Cross Country Team completed sectional competition Tuesday
night in the
Southwestern Conference. The Lady Pirates were led by Freshman Whitney
Andrews with a time of 22:08 placing her 11th; and qualifying
her for the regional race this weekend at Bedford North Lawrence. Finishing
in 24th place with a time of 23:33 was Freshman Alysha Flaget;
followed by Sophomore Mary Hoff with a time of 25:34 placing her 47th;
and Freshman Brittany Miller placing 53rd with a new personal record
of 27:07. The Lady Pirates all did a fantastic job and worked very hard all
season long.
Pirate
Senior Jamie Hurley led the boy’s pack with a 53rd place finish and a
time of 21:34, and only 6 seconds from his personal record. Sophomore
Brett Brooks finished 57th place with a time of 22:32; Sophomore Jase
Shelley finished 61st with a time of 22:59; and Drexler
Meadors, a sophomore, finished 68th with a time of 27:02.
“The Pirate and Lady Pirate Cross Country team had a very good year. They
are a young team and with the dedication and the hard work they showed this
year they will be a top team in the years to come. They all worked very hard
and they deserve to be recognized.” Commented Coach Brown at the conclusion
of the meet. |

Cross Country Places Well at MSC Meet, Andrews Earns Honor
The Charlestown Pirate and Lady Pirate Cross Country team traveled to
Hardy Lake Tuesday evening to compete in the
annual Mid-Southern Conference meet.
The Pirates made a strong showing and placed very well. Leading the Lady
Pirates was Freshman Whitney Andrews with a time of 22:27 finishing
10th; followed by Freshman Alysha Flaget with a time of
23:55 and a 22nd place finish. Sophomore Mary Hoff finished with a
41st finish and a time of 27:15, while Brittany Miller posted a time
of 30:26 and a 48th place finish. For
the Boys, Senior Jamie Hurley lead the pack with a 50th place finish
and a time of 21:58, followed by Sophomore Brett Brooks with a time
of 22:45 and a 52nd place finish, Sophomore Jase Shelly with a time
of 23:37 with a 55th place finish, and Sophomore Drexler Meadors with
a 58th place finish with a time of 25:41. Lady Pirate Whitney Andrews
received all conference honors with a tenth place finish. “Overall I am very
pleased with the Pirates performance, they have been training hard and they
are ready for the competition at sectionals. They are Improving each race
and dropping time”, commented Coach Brown at the conclusion of the evening. |

Pirate Cross Country Compete at Crawford Invite
The Pirate and Lady Pirate Cross Country team competed in the annual
Crawford County Invitational this past weekend, against over thirty other
area high school teams. Representing Charlestown included Lady Pirates
Freshman Whitney Andrews who
placed 5th (22:04), Freshman Alysha Flaget who placed 11th
(22:47), Freshman Brittany Miller who placed 50th (32:26),
and Sophomore Mary Hoff who placed 34th (26:27).
Representing Pirates included Senior Jamie Hurley placing 53rd
(22:00), sophomore Brett Brooks placing 59th (22:32), and
sophomore Drexler Meadors who placed 66th (25:12). Cross
Country Coach Jeremy Brown added, “This course was very challenging, they
(our Pirates and Lady Pirates) worked very hard this past week to train for
this course. Almost all the kids today had a personal record, many by 20
seconds or more.” The Cross Country team is back in action this Saturday at
the Madison Courier Invitational. |
