Pirates Top Brown County 41-24, Advance to FINAL
The Charlestown Pirate Football team (8-3) now has earned the right
to defend its 2012 Sectional crown after beating Brown County on the road
Friday night in the Semi-Final round. The Pirates will again travel to
Brownstown (who defeated North Harrison in the other Semi-Final), Friday,
November 8th. The Pirates jumped out to a quick 14 point lead in the
first quarter on touchdown runs of 51 and 23 by Sophomore QB Tate Boley.
A 28-0 halftime Pirate lead came after a 18 TD pass from Tristen Chester
to Hunter Crace and another scoring run by Boley. The Eagles of
Brown County came out of halftime fired up and scored on their first drive
of the second half before Eli Daniel found pay dirt on a 34 yard
touchdown run with 6:15 remaining in the third. The Eagles quickly
answered just before the end of the third and again in the fourth after
stripping the ball from Pirate ball carriers on three consecutive series,
cutting the advantage to 35-24 with just over 6 minutes remaining in the
game. The Pirates regrouped on a Jason Houchens interception
then drove the field before Matt Myers broke free for a 51 yard TD
run to seal the victory. Tate Boley finished the game with 197
yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns, Matt Myers added 127 yards
on 14 carries and a touchdown, and Eli Daniel 56 yards on 9 carries
and a touchdown. The Pirates outgained the Eagles in total offense 442
to 345 yards. Jacob Wheeler finished the game with 12 tackles
while Jake Harper added eleven. The Pirates have advanced to
the Class 3A Football Sectional Championship game for the third time in the
last four years.

Pirate Football Thumps Madison Saturday Morning
JV Gridiron Pirates traveled to Madison this morning and came away
with a 28-0 victory. Plenty of big plays were made on both sides of the
ball. Leading the way on the defensive side were sacks from Jacob
VanMeter (2), Dylan Fetz, Zymere Speed, and Conner
Applegate. Fumble recoveries from Bradley Laffoon and Zymere
Speed and interceptions from Christian Bates and Amado Gomez.
Several big plays on offense set up scores. Jarren Anderson was on
the receiving end of a 50 pass from Garrett Woods. Justin Farris
also caught a long 40 yd pass from Woods that set up a 15 yd td run
by Woods. On the extra point try an alert Woods picked up a
bad snap and threw a 2 point conversion pass to Christian Bates.
Bates also had a nice 45 yard run and 22 yard pass reception that got the
offense out of a hole. Jarren Anderson had a 4 yd td run. Tyler
Olsen found the end zone twice on a 35 yd run and a 1 yd run. The 1 yd
td run was set up by a 75 yd run by Ethan Richey. Calvin
McClelland was also successful on 2 extra point kicks. A very good all
round effort from the JV squad.
