Pirates Shift Gears at Half, Cruise Past Cubs 49-26

Pirate Football opened the 2010 season on the road by visiting the Madison Cubs.  The Pirates struggled offensively during the first half taking; a narrow 16-12 led to the locker room at the half on two scores with conversions.  The Pirates hit the board first when sophomore quarterback Aaron Daniel scored on a one yard keeper in the first.  Madison countered in the second quarter before the Pirates answered on a 59 yard pass play from Daniel to Senior Josh King to regain the lead.  The Pirates' offense found its groove in the second half when Sophomore Tyler Odle took a hand-off 54 yards to the end zone; and Daniel connected in the air to King once again on a 29 yard touchdown strike.  The Pirates added one, two and three yard rushing touchdowns by Junior Cory Pryor and Senior Ethan Bowen to add the finishing touches on the fifth straight defeat of the 4A Cubs.  The Pirates finished the game with 397 yards of total offense (301 on the ground) and one turnover.  Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting named Senior Josh King the Tumbletown Offensive Player of the Game and Senior Harley Rodriguez the Tumbletown Defensive Player of the Game.  The Pirates open MSC play Friday at home versus the rival Brownstown Braves, kick-off is at 7:00 pm.
