More Pirate Football Accolades!
Daniel Named All-State QB
Just
weeks after eleven different Pirate Football players were named
all-conference and to the all-area team; the accolades continue this week.
Thursday, Pirate Junior Quarterback Aaron Daniel was named the
Indiana Class 3A All-Star Quarterback by the Associated Press. Daniel
finished the 2011 season completing over 66% of his passes for a total of
1,809 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also leading the team in rushing with
1,579 yards and 30 touchdowns. “Aaron had a great season and it is nice
that people outside the
community
see that; I am very proud of Aaron as he continues to represent Charlestown
well on the field and in the classroom”, commented Coach Hawkins.
Last but not
least, and for the second straight year, the Evening News and Tribune named
Charlestown Head Football Coach Jason Hawkins their All-Area Coach of
the Year. Hawkins, who just completed his 5th season at the
helm, has coached the program to a 40-15 combined record; which is quite the
turnaround in comparison to the 7-43 program record for the five years prior
to his arrival. |

Pirates' Better Second Half,
Bests Pioneers 41-28
The
Pirate Football team traveled to Clarksville to challenge long time
rival Providence on the grid iron. The Pirates (6-2 & 5-1 MSC) played
out of sync in the first half and took a touchdown deficient to the break,
21-14. The Pioneers (4-4) established a run offense the Pirates found
difficult to stop in the first two quarters, giving up two touchdowns in the
second on one play drives. The Pirates turned the tables in the second
half, spreading the offense and airing the ball out at will versus the
senior night hosts. With just over four minutes remaining in the game,
the score tied at 28, the Pirates recovered a Pioneer fumble to score, then
forced the ball back on downs to score again and finish. The Pirates
were led offensively by Junior QB Aaron Daniel, who finished the
night 14 of 21 for 140 yards of passing with a touchdown and 184 yards on 30
carries, including five touchdowns. Defensively the Pirates were led
by Jake Harper, Josh Hurley, and Desmond Wiley. The Pirates
finish the regular season next Friday at home, for a senior night contest
versus the Eastern Musketeers. |

MSC) won their fourth straight by piling on the offense (508 to 176 total
yards) after allowing Salem to score on their opening drive. The
Pirates were led by QB Aaron Daniel, who finished the night
completing 15 of 17 passes for 305 yards and 3 TD's; as well as 120 yards on
13 carries and 2 more TD's. Tyler Odle racked up 143 yards on 6
receptions and 2 TD's to be named the Tumbletown Offensive Player of the
Game. Seth McCutchen finished with 69 yards on 16 carries,

The

night and brought plenty of offense straight off the buses. The

while compiling one of their more impressive aerial offensive assaults.

10 of 11 passes for 238 yards, throwing two touchdowns (Wesley Sexton
and Tyler Odle, and rushing another three touchdowns on eight carries
totaling 124 yards. The Pirates amassed 521 total yards of offense,

Pirates Blow Past Generals 42-22, after 22 Point Surge in the Third
The Charlestown Pirate Football
team picked up its first victory of the season after trailing by one at
the half then outscoring the visiting Clarksville Generals (1-2 & 1-1 MSC)
22-8 in the third quarter. The Pirates (1-2 & 1-1 MSC) opened the
second half with a 85 yard touchdown kick-off return by Senior Ryan Miles
to set the second half pace. The Generals following drive didn't
produce points and turned the ball back over to the Pirates, who scored
again on a 5 yard keeper by Junior Quarterback Aaron Daniel. The
Generals scored their lone second half score late in the third on a Rittman
4 yard pass to Kissell. The second half was all Pirates as they found
their groove and protected the ball, unlike in their first two contests.
The Pirate offense was led by Daniel, who finished the night with 289
all-purpose yards, including four touchdowns; while the defense was led by
Sophomore Matt Myers who led the attack with 13 tackles. Daniel

FRIDAY NIGHT PIRATE FOOTBALL is Back!
Pirates Host the Madison Cubs Tonight in the Bone Yard
The Charlestown Pirate Football Team will begin its 2011 regular
season tonight hosting the Madison Cubs on Dutch Reis Field. Kick-off is
scheduled for 7:00 pm and tailgating in the CHS parking lot will again be
underway by 5:00 pm. If you’ve missed football as much as most in
Charlestown, tonight is the start of another exciting season featuring
returning starters Aaron Daniel at quarterback, Tyler Odle and
Seth McCutcheon at running back, and receivers Wesley Sexton
and Gage Brafford, among others. The Pirates have one of the
quickest and most talented freshman classes moving in to compete with the
very motivated upper classmen. QB Aaron Daniel, who finished last season
with over 2,700 all-purpose yards of offense, has plenty of targets via air
and deep versatile ground running options. The defense is young, but quick,
talented, and playing with a chip on the shoulder to prove they will stop
opponent offenses from several angles. There’s something in the air, and on
the ground…..don’t miss the action as it kick-offs tonight at 7:00 pm. Fans
who absolutely can’t make it to the game, can listen to live play by play
coverage by Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting; on the internet beginning at
6:45 pm at
www.CharlestownPiratePride.com. Fans can also get scoring updates by
following Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting on Facebook and Twitter (CPPSB). |

IHSAA Re-Aligns Football Sectionals for 2011 and 2012 Seasons
The Pirate Football Program learned that it will remain in Class 3A
Sectional #23 again for the next two years, but that the sectional will see
several changes. School enrollment changes and the addition of Varsity
Football at Silver Creek are the two factors for the majority of the
sectional lineup shake-up; which moves Indian Creek, Brown County and
Edgewood to 3A Sectional #22. The sectional remains an eight team
sectional, including Brownstown, Charlestown, Corydon, Heritage Hills,
Mitchell, North Harrison, Salem and Silver Creek. MSC foe Brownstown
moves into Sectional #23 after increased enrollment changes their class from
2A to 3A; along with Mitchell, who's enrollment moves them from 2A to 3A.
Add the new 3A Silver Creek Varsity Football program into the mix and
Sectional #23 becomes move of a Mid-Southern Conference post season
tournament; with Heritage Hills and Mitchell playing odd-ball out.
Check out all the statewide changes in Football post season line-ups at
www.CharlestownPiratePride.com/2011FootballRealignment.pdf.
