Lady Pirates Draw Brownstown in Sectional Round #1
The Lady Pirate Basketball team learned their necessary path to a
Sectional Championship Sunday evening; during the annual IHSAA Girls
Basketball Sectional draw. The Lady Pirates play in Sectional #30, which
again this year will be hosted at the Charlestown HS Sports Arena. The Lady
Pirates (4-14) will play Brownstown (17-2), Wednesday evening February 8th
at 6:00 pm. The rest of Sectional #30 girls brackets include North Harrison
and Salem facing off Tuesday evening February 7th; with that winner moving
on the Semi-Final round to meet Scottsburg, which drew the sectional bye.
Silver Creek and Corydon will match-up in Wednesday’s second game, beginning
at approximately 7:30 pm. The winners of Wednesday's Brownstown-Charlestown
game and Silver Creek-Corydon Central game will play in Friday's second
Semi-Final contest. “Brownstown is obviously considered the sectional
favorite, and since hosting the tournament, the Lady Pirates have no problem
getting down to business from game one”, commented Coach Terrell after the
pairings were announced Sunday evening. Coach Terrell also pointed out that
the overall strength of the teams in Sectional #30 “promises to create some
very competitive and exciting post season match-ups.” Pirate Pride
Sports Broadcasting will cover every second of Charlestown Lady Pirate
Basketball sectional action; while complete tourney information can be
located at
www.CharlestownPiratePride.com/GirlsBasketballSectionalPage.htm.

Henning Led Lady Pirates Defeat
Salem on the MSC Road
The
Lady Pirate Basketball team has struggled most of the season
offensively and at times at the charity stripe; but not at Salem (8-10 & 1-7
MSC) Thursday night. The Lady Pirates compiled a "total team effort"
game and handed the Lady Lions a 53-44 set back in Mid-Southern Conference
play. Charlestown (3-14 & 1-6 MSC) was led in scoring by Freshman
Kaitlynn Henning, who finished the night with 24 points while shooting a
perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line. Sophomore Jessica Farmer
also paced the winners by adding 11 points and shooting 7-9 from the line;
while Junior Taryn Moore led the rebounding battle with eight.
The Lady Pirates as a team made 23 of 26 free throw attempts and posted 41
total team rebounds, eleven of which were offensive. The Lady Pirates
will host Clarksville (4-14 & 0-7) Thursday evening with hopes of developing
more steam heading into post season play. |

Lady Pirate Basketball Camp, May 31st - June3rd
The Lady Pirate Basketball program will hold a youth
basketball camp for current grades K-7th at the Charlestown High School May
31st through June 3rd. The camp will run each day from 3:30 pm to 5:00
pm, at a cost of $30.00 per camper if registered before May 20th and $35.00
per camper if registered after may 20th. The camp fee includes a
t-shirt, after school transportation to the high school, as well as a drink
and snack for each camper.
The camp focus will be on
fundamentals. Using new drills, skill stations, along with challenging
competitions to begin to develop each camper into a fundamentally sound
basketball player. Proper shooting technique, passing, ball handling and
defensive strategies are just some of the things the Charlestown Lady Pirate
coaches and players will teach during this fun-filled camp. For more
