Jeffersonville Girls
Tennis Sectional - Opening Round
Charlestown 4 vs. New
Washington 1
Singles:
1S - Lindsay Krohn(NW)
d. Lynsey Peyton 6-3,6-3
2S - Holly Jones(C)
d. Samantha Sarver 6-1,6-0
3S - Holly Duggins(C)
d. Kala Dieterlen 6-1, 6-3
Doubles:
1D - Paige
Jones/Erica Kasey(C) d. Sarah Martin/Megan Vanwie 6-0,6-0
2D - Whitney
Greene/Gina Smith(C) d. Jessica Hobbs/Briana Hoskins 6-0,6-0
Holly Jones played a
good match at two singles. We talked about needing a win at a singles spot,
and Holly Jones completely controlled her match to give us the singles win.
It was also good to see Holly Duggins play fairly well. She showed some
nervousness when I was warming up with her, but then relaxed enough to get
the straight set win at three singles. Jeff will be a different match
tomorrow, so hopefully our girls will benefit from getting some of their
nerves out today.

May
6, 2008: Austin 2 @ Charlestown 3:
Singles: 1S - Katy McIntosh(A) d. Lyndsey Peyton 6-0,6-0;
2S - Lisanne Goodin(A) d. Holli Jones 6-1,6-1; 3S - Holly Duggins(C) d.
Heather Taylor 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles: 1D - Erica Kasey/Paige Jones(C) d. Dee
Logsdon/Brittany Nease 6-2, 6-2;
2D-
Whitney Greene/Gina Smith(C) d. Sidney Nease/Lacy
Payne 6-4, 6-3.
I couldn't be any more proud of our two seniors
today. We knew that Austin would have the advantage at one and two singles,
and because of an Austin injury, that we would have the advantage at three
singles. Our seniors, Erica and Paige, played the near-perfect match today
at the one doubles spot. The one doubles spot was the one I knew would
determine the outcome of the conference match-up, and those two seniors
jumped out early, and never let up.

May 5, 2008: Borden 4 v. Charlestown 1:
Singles:
1S-
Shelbi Bishop d. Erica Kasey 6-0,6-0; 2S- Nicole Banet d. Lyndsey Peyton
7-6(8-6), 6-0; 3S- Holly Jones(C) d. Haley McKinley 6-2,7-5.
Doubles: 1D- Chelseay Blalock/Rachel Page d. Paige Jones/Holli
Duggins 3-6,6-0,6-4; 2D- Jordan Cook/Kelli Holthouser d. Emily Combs/Whitney
Greene 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
This was our second tough loss
in a row. When Holly closed out her second set at three singles, I thought
our doubles were both still in good shape to have chances to win. Borden did
a really good job of overcoming both first set losses at the doubles spots.
Our girls are getting better at competing in matches, and hopefully that
will lead to our winning some of these close matches soon in these
situations.

May 1, 2008:
Charlestown 2 at Madison Shawe 3:
Singles: 1S - Maria Berry (MS) d. Erica Kasey 6-0,6-0;
2S - Haley Jones (MS) d. Lyndsey Peyton 6-2, 6-7(4-7), 7-5; 3S - Holly Jones
(C) d. Maise Louster 7-6(7-4), 6-4
Doubles: 1D - Holly Duggins/Paige Jones(C) d. Katherine
Bear/Kelsie Ward 7-6(7-5), 6-2;
2D-
Jordie Fry/Ebony Inskeep(MS) d. Whitney
Greene/Emily Combs 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
This was a tough match to
lose. Holly Jones played the best match I've seen for our singles this year
to give us the second point, with one doubles winning their match. We had
Lyndsey at two singles, and Emily and Whitney at two doubles both going into
their third sets, needing either to win. Shawe won both of those third sets
with a 7-5 score, to close out our chances

April 14, 2008: Charlestown 4 at Salem 1:
Singles:
1S - Lyndsey Peyton d. Tonnie Terrell 6-4,6-4 2S
- Tressie Barrett(S) d. Paige Jones 6-1,6-1 3S - Holly Duggins d. Olivia
Hazelip 6-0,6-3
Doubles: 1D - Erica Kasey/Whitney Greene d. Maddie Smith/Wendey
Fleener 6-4,6-4 2D - Holly Jones/Gina Smith d. Danielle Williams/Abbie
Coomer 6-7(10-12), 7-5,6-3
This match could have easily
went the other way for us. # doubles got off to a terrible start in the
first set, getting down 5-2, then fought back to lose in the tiebreaker. I
was worried they might let down emotionally, but was pleased with their
effort in coming back to win in the second and third sets. Holly Jones
really took over the match and refused to lose.
One singles and one doubles also
did a good job in closing out their second sets to keep from going to the
third set, giving the team the two needed points with #3 singles for the
team win.

April 12, 2008: Charlestown Invitational:
1st - Christian Academy of Indiana
2nd - Charlestown
3rd - South Central
4th - New Washington
CAI's singles players dominated the tournament,
winning 72 games to 4 losses in their three singles positions. #2 Singles
Ashley Roach led the way with 6-0,6-0 wins over Sammi Sarver of New
Washington, and Gina Smith of Charlestown. I was pleased with Lyndsey, Gina,
and Holly to win their first round matches, to guarantee a team point, but
the CAI trio was too dominant to compete with in the finals.
Although the matches were more competitive, CAI
also won both doubles brackets to give the team a 5-0 sweep of the positions
finals.
The invitational was switched from a round-robin
style, to a position bracket style tournament due to cold weather and the
threat of late afternoon rain.
Position Finals:
Singles:
1S- Shawna Doty d. Lyndsey Peyton(CT) 6-0,6-0
2S- Ashley Roach d. Gina Smith(CT) 6-0, 6-0
3S- Natalie Winslow d. Holly Jones(CT) 6-0,6-0
Doubles: 1D - Jennie Ingles/Anita Vivance d. Jodie Spencer/Morgan
Bosten(S.C.) 6-3,6-4 2D - Abbigail Uhl/Erika Huckabone d. Sydney Seelye/Anna
Loos(S.C.) 6-0,6-2
