07/31/08:

Lady Pirate Golf Announces First Practice:

Charlestown High School Girls Golf Coach Doug Wacker has announced the first practices for the up-coming IHSAA Girls Golf season to begin on Friday, August 1st, beginning at 1:00 pm and again Saturday, beginning at 9:00 am.  Practices will be held at the Hidden Creek Golf Course, located at 4975 Utica-Sellersburg Rd., east of Sellersburg.  A reminder that athletes must have a completed sports physical before participating.  Check out the Girls Golf Sports Page for more information about Lady Pirate Golf.

 

07/30/08:

Pirate Boys Tennis Announces the Beginning of Season Practices

Charlestown High School Boys Tennis Coach Chris Ryan has announced the first practice for the up-coming IHSAA Boys Tennis season to begin on Monday, August 4th, from 8:15 am to 10:00 am.  Coach Ryan invites all athletes not participating in other fall sports to attend.  Practice will be held on the Charlestown HS campus tennis courts; but due to construction, athletes attending will have access to the tennis courts from the football field entrance.  Check out the Boys Tennis Sports Page for more information about Pirate Tennis.

 

07/30/08:

Lady Pirate Volleyball to Hold Try-Outs

Charlestown High School Volleyball Coach Gary Timberlake has announced team try-outs to be held Monday and Tuesday, August 4th and 5th, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Charlestown High School's Bill Dunn Sports Arena.  All girls grades 9 through 12 interested in playing Lady Pirate Volleyball must attend try-outs.  Check out the Lady Pirate Volleyball Sports Page for more information, or contact Coach Timberlake at 812-949-9384 or Rhonda Davidson at 812-256-5714.

 

07/25/08:

Athletic Office Announces Fall Schedules & Ticket Information

Charlestown High School Athletic Director David Null released the competition schedules for Pirate and Lady Pirate Fall Sports (Cross Country, Football, Girls Golf, Soccer, Boys Tennis & Volleyball).  Full fall sports schedules are now available at www.CharlestownPiratePride.com/SchedulesResults.htm.

Also released is the 2008-2009 Pirate & Lady Pirate Home Venue Ticket Information, now available at www.CharlestownPiratePride.com/Tickets.htm

07/22/08:

CHS Building Project Updated Plans Unveiled

Approximately 200 Pirate parents and citizens gathered this evening in the CHS cafeteria for a community meeting updating the progress of the $39.8 million project to construct a new Charlestown High School.  The two hour meeting, held by GCCS Superintendent Dr. Bennett and School Board Members, provided the opportunity for the community to review revised project plans of the architectural firm (The Estopinal Group), updated progress of construction which has already begun on campus; as well as, community question and answer.

A community ground breaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12th, beginning at 2:00 pm to officially mark the beginning of the $39.8 million dollar project to construct a new Charlestown High School on the existing campus. 

 

07/22/08:

Merschbrocks & Coach Smith Participate in All-Star Game

The East-West Class 3A All-Star game was recently played in New Castle, Indiana.  The East Squad featured 2007-08 season Senior Pirates Zach and Clayton Merschbrock; as well as, Charlestown's own Head Coach Sean Smith serving as East Squad Assistant Coach under Fort Wayne Harding's Coach Al Gooden.  Zach Merschbrock led scoring for the East squad with 17 points while Clayton Merschbrock contributed 14 points in an unfortunate losing cause for the East Squad All-Stars, 81-72.  Congratulations to all three for their selections and proud representation of Pirate Nation.

 

07/11/08:

CHS Building Project Community Meeting, Scheduled

Tuesday, July 22nd, 6:00 pm, in the CHS cafeteria a VERY IMPORTANT COMMUNITY meeting with GCCS Superintendent Dr. Bennett and School Board Members will be conducted to update the progress and status of the Charlestown High School Building Project.  The project is scheduled to break ground by month's end, but there are several issues and unanswered questions to be decided.  For all citizens of Charlestown, especially those with children in school now or in the future, this is an EXTREMELY important meeting to attend.  Pirate Pride Officer Chris Grayson has sent an email out which appropriately sets the tone for this meeting and it's importance.  That email has also been forwarded to Pirate fans on the Pirate Pride eNotification List, if you desire to be sent a copy of Mr. Grayson's email, submit your request to ePiratePride@insightbb.com.

Pirate Summer Baseball Camp Announced

July 14th - 16th, 2008...for boys entering grades 2nd - 9th, at the Charlestown Little League Fields, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm each day with Registration beginning at 8:30 am, Monday, July 14th.  For more information, click HERE to download and print a flyer.

 

07/01/08:

Pirate Tennis Senior Erica Kasey, Named to Academic All-State

Charlestown High School graduate Erica Kasey, was recently named as Honorable Mention to the Academic All-State List by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association.  Erica was a four year Pirate varsity player before graduating with the Class of 2008. 

 

The criteria for Academic All-State is as follows:

> Must play at least 50% of team's varsity matches.

> Must have at least a score of 1100 on the 1600 SAT, or 1650 on the 2400 SAT.

> Must have at least a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

 

06/25/08:

Lady Pirate Katie Jackson on Winning Side of East-West Game

Charlestown Senior Lady Pirate Basketball stand out Katie Jackson recently represented Charlestown High School in the 2008 HBCA All-Star Classic in Evansville, Indiana.  Katie's East Team, coached by Columbus East's Danny Brown and South Central's Randall Schoen, handily beat the West Team.  The East All-Star Team also consisted of Jessica Mosier (North Harrison), Abigail Hoskins (Floyd Central), Shaylee Brown (Salem), Kassie Kovert (Brownstown), Maria Berry (Shawe), Brittany Schoen (South Central), Beth Glomb (Lansville), Jessica Whitaker (Floyd Central), and Brianna Layton (Columbus East).  Congratulations and thanks to Katie for representing Pirate Blue!

 

06/25/08:

Pirates Finish Well at UK Linemen Camp

Nine Pirate Football Players...Travis Aguirre, Jordan White, Cody Williams, Wes Bowling, Daniel Harper, Matt Hall, Jake Dent, Clay Daniel, and Eric Kruse finished 4th out of 16 teams at the University of Kentucky Lineman Camp held June 18th - 20th in Lexington, Kentucky.

 

Offensive lineman worked in the areas of pass blocking, run blocking and recognizing defensive fronts and promoting communication among the men in the trenches.

 

Defensively, emphasis was in the areas of defeating or avoiding the different run blocks, perfecting skills for rushing the passer with football and hand-to-hand techniques as well as many other fundamentals.

 

Coach Hawkins commented that he was pleased with his player's performance during the linemen competition and felt the camp was very beneficial.  For more information on the UK Football Camps, go to www.ukathletics.com.
