Lady Pirate Volleyball Player
Anna Trotter Honored
Statewide
Charlestown Volleyball Senior Anna Trotter, was
recently named
Indiana Academic All-State Honorable Mention
by the Indiana High
School Volleyball Coaches Association. The qualifying criteria
for nominees are as follows: 1. The Player must be a Senior; 2.
The Player must have a minimum GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent;
3. The Player must have scored at least 1100 on the SAT or 24 on the
ACT; and 4. Player must be a varsity participant in a minimum of 50%
of team contests.
CONGRATULATIONS to
Anna for your accomplishments and recognition as a result of your
hard work and dedication as a successful Charlestown Pirate student athlete!

Pirates Defeat Cougars in First
Round, Heritage Hills Next
The Charlestown
Pirate Football Team
defeated visiting
North Harrison, 33 - 15 in the first round of Class 3A Sectional #23 play.
The Pirates were led by Junior Josh Graham on the ground and improved play
by the Defensive Line. Cameron Metzger, in his second game since
returning from a Week #4 knee injury, ran much closer to healthy form in the
victory. The Pirates will now travel to Lincoln City on Halloween
night for rematch of last year's Sectional Semi-Final versus Heritage Hills.
Heritage Hills defeated host Salem 28-0, in other Sectional #23 first round
action.

Pirate Tennis Players Honored
Statewide
Charlestown Boys Tennis Seniors Tyler Roach and David Beach, were
recently named

Pirate Pride Announces the Pirate Pride Way Project
Pirate Pride Way will be located in an Alumni Garden area in front of
the main office and basketball arena entries of the new Charlestown High
School; designated for the placement of engraved bricks and stone benches
dedicated in honor and support of individual interests of Charlestown High
School. Pirate Pride Way is also a Pirate Pride Booster Club fund
raiser, providing all friends of Charlestown High School an opportunity to
permanently show their support of our new high school. Pirate Pride
encourages everyone associated with Charlestown High School, past, present
and future, alumni, students, athletes, band members, teachers, and
administrators to become a part of our new school building. Engraved
bricks and stone benches will reflect your personal memorial, dedication,
and support of the new Charlestown High School. Engraving is individualized
to your preferences, and made to order as shown in the below examples.
All bricks and stone benches will be installed upon completion of the new
school campus. Orders are now being accepted to purchase an engraved brick
or stone bench. There is no limit on the number of bricks you can purchase.

Cross Country and Volleyball
Sectional Information
The Charlestown
Pirate Cross Country Team
will compete today,
October 14th, beginning at 5:00 pm in the Southwestern (Hanover) High School
Cross Country IHSAA Sectional.
Good luck to all Pirate and Lady Pirate Runners, who will be competing
against runners from 12 other area high schools!
The Charlestown
Lady Pirate Volleyball Team will begin IHSAA state tournament play in
the Salem Sectional #30 on Tuesday, October 21st, versus home standing
Salem. Sectional #30 is comprised of teams from Charlestown, Salem,
Silver Creek, Corydon Central, Mitchell, Crawford County, & North Harrison.
Good luck to the Lady Pirate Volleyball team during post season
tournament competition!

Pirates Earn 2nd Straight MSC
Football Title on Homecoming Night
The Charlestown
Pirate Football Team
hosted and defeated
the North Harrison Cougars, who with a win would have shared the conference
title instead of the Pirates, 25 - 7. The Pirates put the game away in
familiar second half fashion, in front of a large Homecoming night crowd.
The Pirates rushed for over 330 yards, including Junior RB Josh Graham's and
Senior QB Damon Vest's contribution of two touchdowns and 100+ rushing each.
The Pirates share the MSC title with Salem and Brownstown, who also finished
with one lose conference records.
Senior RB Cameron Metzger, who missed his fourth game recovering from the
September 12th knee injury, saw field action as he was crowned royalty as
the 2008 Homecoming King along with Senior Cheerleader Samantha Farmer, who
was elected the 2008 Homecoming Queen. Coach Jason Hawkins, who
coaching record improved to 16-3 in two years at CHS, commented that it was
possible Metzger may return to the field for play during next weeks regular
season final game and Senior Night versus Lawrenceburg. North Harrison
will return to the Bone Yard at Dutch Reis Field on October 24th, for the
first round of the Class 3A Sectional #23 Tournament.

Pirate Soccer to Open
Sectional Play vs. Providence:
The 2008 IHSAA
Soccer Sectional #59, hosted by Jeffersonville High School,
has been finalized.
The Pirate Soccer team will play match #2, scheduled for Saturday, October
11th, with a 9:00 am start time, and at the Jeffersonville High School
soccer field. The winner of match #2 will play in the Championship
match Saturday evening at 8:00 pm. Teams in the Jeffersonville Soccer
Sectional include, Charlestown, Christian Academy, Jeffersonville,
Providence, & Rock Creek Academy.

Pirate Football to Open
Sectional Play at Home vs. North Harrison:
The 2008 IHSAA
State Football Tournament draw
for Class 3A's
Sectional #23
are official. The results have Charlestown hosting North Harrison in
the first round, Friday night October 24th beginning at 7:00 pm in a rematch
of this Friday's Homecoming game. The winner of the Charlestown -
North Harrison game will host the winner of the Heritage Hills at Salem game
in the Section Semi-Final round. "I'm pleased that we will open
tournament play at home, and feel that the upper brackets of Sectional #23
are very competitive once again," commented Coach Hawkins moments after

Pirate Cross Country Finish a
Busy Week Running Around:
The Charlestown
Pirate Cross Country Team
completed a busy week running and building on
that Pirate Pride. Tuesday, the Cross Country team participated in the
New Washington High School
Invitational, held at the New
Washington High School. Earning individual awards were Freshman
Katie Burkhart, finishing 6th overall in a time of 23:10 in the girl's
race. Junior Tyler Newcomb placed 18th overall in 18:43, and
Freshman Patrick Werner finished 23rd over in the boy's race in 19:05.
Thursday (yesterday), the Pirate runners competed in the
Eastern Invitational
meet in Pekin, Indiana. Competing
against over 90 runners in the girls race, Freshman Katie Burkhart
ran another strong race again earning award honors placing 18th overall in a
time of 22:56, setting a new personal best time. Junior Tyler
Newcomb was the top finisher in the boy's race in a time of 18:35
against over 117 runners. Additional team times of note include Liz
Stephens, 26:37; Sophie Higazy, 36:36; Patrick Werner, 19:29; Sean Balch,
20:27; James Hurley, 21:05; Taylor Newcomb, 21:29; Taylor Pfohl, 21:30; and
Stephen Martin, 23:10. The team will now prepare for the conference
meet scheduled for Tuesday, October 7th at Hardy Lake, in Austin, Indiana.

3rd Annual Golf Scramble to
Benefit Pirate Basketball, Oct. 17th:
The annual scramble
benefits the Charlestown High School Boys Basketball Program
and will be held at
Hidden Creek Golf Club, Friday,
October 17th, 2008. Registration will begin at 8:00 am with a shotgun
start at 9:00 am. Team entry is $240.00 ($60.00 per player) and
includes green and cart fees as well as a catered lunch by Ron Smith of QBC
Catering. Several different contests will be held throughout the day
with many chances for players to win prizes and money. For more

Salem's Bleachers Friday!
The
Charlestown High School Pirate Football team is in the hunt for another
Mid-Southern Conference Championship title, with a one game lead over
Brownstown Central and Salem. The Pirates travel to Salem this Friday night
determined to complete the next step in a second consecutive undefeated
conference season, securing at least a share of the title with a win. All
season long Pirate fans have over loaded visitor bleachers at away games
motivating the team as the 12th Pirate player on the field. This
week’s game is not only an important conference title challenge for the
Pirates, but also time for Pirate fans to again be there for our team in
full force support. Be apart of the magic, excitement and pride of Pirate
football, don’t miss this week’s game. Wear your
Pride BLUE and ready to cheer the Pirates to another MSC victory!

Pirates Get Their "MoJo" back on
the Gridiron:
The Charlestown Pirate Football
team handily
defeated the visiting Corydon Panthers 55 - 26 Friday night in
completing the next step in the hunt for a second consecutive
Mid-Southern Conference title. Junior Josh Graham set a
new school record
for most touchdowns in a game, finishing the game with 160 yards rushing on
24 carries, 42 yards on 2 receptions and 7 touchdowns. Ariel Stephens
continued her outstanding first year kicking average by completing 7 out of
8 extra point attempts. Senior Travis Aguirre finished the game with a
quarterback sack, several hurries and tackles and led a Pirate Defensive
line that held the Panthers to just 6 first downs and under 100 yards of
rushing. Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting named Graham
Offensive Player of the Game and Aguirre Defensive Player of the Game.
The Pirates travel to Salem this Friday, determined to maintain their one
game lead in the MSC while securing at least a share of the 2008 MSC title
with a win.

Community Cook-Out at HOME Football Game Tonight (THE GAME IS ON!):
Charlestown High School’s Dutch Reis Field
will be the place to be tonight as the
community will take another step closer to getting things back to normal
after wide-spread damage as a result of Sunday's wind storm from the
remnants of Hurricane Ike. The
City of Charlestown will be providing free meals during tonight's home
football game between the Providence Pioneers (2-2) and the Class 3A #6
Charlestown Pirates (4-0). Game time is 7:00 pm at Dutch Reis Field.
