Four Lady Pirates Advance to
Swimming Sectional Finals
The Lady Pirate Swim Team
competed in the 2012 IHSAA Sectional Swimming
preliminaries hosted by Floyd Central High School on Thursday evening, with
16 other local schools. Of the eight Lady Pirates to swim in the
match, four will see action again on Saturday afternoon when the sectional
swimming and diving finals are held at Floyd Central. In the 200 Yard
IM preliminary race, Senior Katie Jenkins finished in the top 18 (out
of 32 contestants) and will be an alternate in Saturday's Sectional finals.
Freshman Kali Crace finished in the top 16 in two races; the 100 Yard
Butterfly and the 100 Yard Backstroke. Kali will swim in the consolation
races of both events on Saturday.
The highlight of Charlestown's performance at
the Sectional Meet was a 7th place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay,
which will swim in the Sectional Finals on Saturday. This is the same
relay team that just a little over a week earlier won the event at the Mid
Southern Athletic Conference for the second year in a row. The 200
Free Relay team members are Jenkins, Crace and Seniors Katie
Burkhart and Sarah Trotter.
Congratulations and good luck to all our Lady Pirate swimmers, also
including Junior Lindsey Blackwell, Sophomore Mary Hoff, and
Freshmen Nicole Brink and Whitney Andrews.
