05/22/11:
Pirate Track Competes at Sectional, 400 Relay Qualifies for Regionals
The
Charlestown Pirate Track and Field team competed in the
Jeffersonville sectional Thursday night.
The
team’s points were scored by Salih Soodoo who finished 8th
in the 100 meter dash, Kie Sutherland who finished 8th in
the 1600 meter run, the 1600 meter relay team finished 6th and
consisted of Salih Soodoo, Jase Shelley, Desmond Wiley, and Kie
Sutherland , and the 400 meter relay team who finished third and
consisted of Kyle Jenkins, Ryan Wilkerson, Cesar Hernandez, and Salih
Soodoo. The rest of the team’s top 10 finishers include Kyle Jenkins
in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Kie Sutherland in the 800 meter run,
Ryan Wilkerson in the 100 dash, the 3200 Meter Relay team consisting of
Kie Sutherland, Nathan Bats, Noah Bates, and Brett Brooks. The third
place finish by the 400 meter relay team advances them to the Bloomington
North Regional next Thursday. Good luck Regionals to our 400m relay
team!

Farmer Wins 400 Dash as Lady Pirates Compete in Sectional
The
Charlestown Lady Pirate Track and Field team competed in the
Jeffersonville sectional Tuesday night. Scoring points for the Lady Pirates
were the 3200 Meter Relay team consisting of Samantha Smith, Allyson
Stenbro, Katie Navetta, and Adilene Gomez which finished 6th,
Megan Brooks with a 6th place finish in the discus,
Lauren Crowe with a 7th place finish in the 300 meter
hurdles, and Jessica Farmer was a sectional champion in the 400 meter
dash. Jessica is having an outstanding season having set a new CHS school
record in both the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.55 (set on April 26th)
and the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.74 (set May 17th.)
Jessica’s 1st place finish earned her a spot at next week’s
regional at Bloomington North High School. Congratulations Lady
Pirates!

Pirate Track & Field Begin Season Strong at Providence Meet
The
Pirate and Lady Pirate Track and Field team kicked off their season on
Wednesday night at Providence. The boys team scored 45 points and came in
second behind Providence and ahead of South Central and New Washington.
Scoring in first place for the boys were Senior Kie Sutherland in the 1600 M
and the 1600 M relay team consisting of Sutherland, Senior Kyle Jenkins,
Freshman Salih Soodoo, and Junior Justin Wolf. Placing second in events
were Soodoo in the 100 M Dash, Jenkins in the 300 hurdles, the 3200 Relay
team consisting of Jenkins, Sutherland, Freshman Noah Bates, and Freshman
Jase Shelley, and the 400 M Relay Team consisting of Soodoo, Wolf, Freshman
Luke Woods, and Sophomore Cesar Hernandez.
The girls
picked up 42 points to finish third. Scoring first place ribbons for the
girls were Freshman Jessica Farmer in the 200 M and 400 M, and Freshman
Megan Brooks in the discus. Farmer also placed second in the long jump and
third in the 100 M. Brooks placed second in the shot put, while Freshman
Lauren Crowe, Junior Allyson Stenbro, Sophomore Adilene Gomez, and Junior
Sam Smith also ran impressive races to help the Lady Pirates.
Both
teams will compete again next Tuesday, April 5ht at home against New
Washington.
