Pirates Upset Bluejackets 9-4 in Sectional First Round

The Pirate Baseball team (9-13) put together two strong innings in the 4th and 5th to stun the Mitchell Bluejackets in the Silver Creek Class 3A Sectional first round Friday night.  The Pirates started slow, allowing Mitchell to post a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st.  The Pirates didn't give up, and led by relief Sophomore Pitcher Tyler Willinger and Senior Catcher Buddy Harper, the Pirate took advantage of opportunities to tie and then surge forward for the surprise victory.  The Pirates will next play Monday evening at 5:00 pm, in the second semi-final game, versus the winner of Monday's 11:00 am contest between Salem and Crawford County.  For complete Baseball Sectional Information, go to www.CharlestownPiratePride.com/BaseballSectionalPage.htm.   All Pirate Baseball Sectional play can be heard live on Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting.

Pirates Open Season with a One-Two Punch Double Header

The Pirate Baseball team (2-0) began its 2011 season hosting the Charlevoix Rayders, of Michigan, for double header last Saturday.  The Pirates started shaky in the first contest, but took off offensively to score 13 runs off 11 hits while committing only one error to push the victory on the ten run rule.  Pitcher David Cissell got the win from the mound while Bristol Frazier added a double and Senior Buddy Harper a home run in the 13-3 victory.  The Pirates dominated the Rayders again in the second contest, taking advantage of five visitor errors and scoring 11 runs on 10 hits, including double by Willinger, Crawford, and Pfohl in a 11-1 decision after five innings.  The Pirates and Rayders have played one other time, opening day to the 2009 season when the Pirates were victorious 8-2.  The Rayders are a similar-sized high school from Michigan, who annually take a spring training trip to Tennessee, occasionally stopping in Charlestown for a contest, as well as a visit to the nearby Louisville Slugger Museum.
